State of the Swan

Creighton is a keen gamer who passionately believes in the Open Gaming License and is dedicated to making his games as fun and easy to enjoy as possible for all participants. Reducing or removing entry barriers, simplifying pre-game prep and easing the GM's workload are the key underpinning principles of the products he releases through Raging Swan Press.

Creighton started roleplaying a few days before his 10th birthday when his older cousin introduced him and his sister to Basic Dungeons & Dragons. His sister died a horrible death (chortle), but Creighton survived his battle with the Black Prince. (Looking back on it, the dungeon was riddled with clichés!) The very next day, Creighton purchased the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons Player’s Handbook and his long journey into the deep recesses of geekdom was well underway.

The next few years were fairly typical for a young gamer: rainbow coloured dragons, 1,000,000d6 lightning bolts (the DM didn’t like Creighton), killing everything in Deities & Demigods and some very high-level characters (all totally, 100% legal played from 1st-level). Amongst the carnage, Creighton fell in love with the Greyhawk setting and in 1999 (just sixteen short years later) wrote his first freelance module (Shadows Under Scant, for the RPGA). Getting involved with Living Greyhawk was inevitable and Creighton became a Triad member for the UK shortly before the release of 3rd Edition. Membership of the Circle of Six quickly followed as did several articles for Dragon Magazine and Dungeon Magazine. For the next six years, Creighton busily slaughtered countless Living Greyhawk characters while writing many Core and Core Special events for the campaign.

During this time, he landed his first freelance writing gigs for Expeditious Retreat Press, Paizo and Wizards of the Coast. His work has included contributions to several 3.5 and 4e hardbacks, supplements, adventures and a few adventures in the new on-line Dungeon.

In 2010, Creighton launched Raging Swan Press. Dedicated to producing reasonably priced, quality, easy to run products for the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Raging Swan Press enables Creighton to share stories and create engaging, dynamic adventures and situations while dodging a proper job). He pledges that none of his products will ever feature rainbow dragons or 1,000,000d6 lightning bolts.

Over the last 11 years, Creighton has worked with . He now releases his own products through Raging Swan Press.

Creighton lives in Torquay, England where, apparently, the palm trees are plastic and the weather is warm. He shares a ramshackle old mansion with his two children (“Genghis” and “Khan”) and his patient wife. Famed for his unending love affair with booze and pizza he is an enduring GREYHAWK fan.

You can read his thoughts on game design on his blog.

Living Greyhawk

For over nine years, Creighton was instrumental in running the Living Greyhawk campaign – the largest role-playing game campaign in the world.

As a triad member for the UK, he subsequently moved to the Circle of Six where he first oversaw the Splintered Sun Metaregion before moving on to become responsible for the campaign’s core and core special releases. In addition to these duties he also designed and developed the “Blight on Bright Sands” and “Greyhawk Ruins” mini-campaigns.

During his time with the campaign, Creighton edited over 100 adventures and wrote 20 adventures (including six special events premiering at DDXP, Origins and Gen Con).
